PROTEO Co-directed Graduate Scholarships Guidelines
Objectives
The objectives of PROTEO co-directed Scholarships are:
- To support promising candidates to undertake, or to pursue graduate studies within PROTEO;
- To improve students’ CVs and increase their competitiveness in scholarship programs from major agencies.
- To encourage collaboration among PROTEO’s regular members through co-directed graduate students.
Number of scholarships
- Scholarships worth 6 000$ for master’s students and 8 000$ for doctoral students
Competition and deadlines for applications
- The deadline for submissions is July 17 at 5:00 p.m.
- Results will be announced by end of September.
Eligibility conditions
- Scholarships are offered to graduate students under the official codirection* of two regular members, working on projects related to the objectives and scientific themes of PROTEO.
- A student cannot receive a PROTEO scholarship more than once, for the same type of scholarship (Graduate Scholarship) and the same study cycle (M.Sc. vs. Ph.D.). Therefore, a student who has received a PROTEO scholarship for a master’s degree may receive a scholarship for a doctorate.
- A student is not eligible to PROTEO scholarships if she/he already receives a scholarship of an annually amount of $15 000 for M.Sc. and $22 000 for Ph.D, excluding contributions from PIs, tuition fees or admission scholarships.
- The research supervisor must commit to supplementing this bursary so that the candidate has a minimum of $20,000/year* for master’s candidates and a minimum of $25,000/year** for doctoral candidates.
*The co-supervision must be provided by two regular members of PROTEO: the supervisor and the co-supervisor of the student.
**In alignment with FRQNT scholarship amounts.
Evaluation
- Applications are evaluated according to following criteria:
- Quality and potential impact of the research (clarity of the scientific objectives, originality of the project, contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field, links with potential users).
- Social involvement, leadership and/or communication skills (organisation of conferences and meetings, volunteering, mentoring, experience as a supervisor, project management, election to positions of responsibility, general presentation of the application).
- Excellence of academic record (cumulative average, progression of studies, duration of studies, prizes, and distinctions).
- Research skills and relevant research experience (research interests, experience and achievements, scientific publications, and presentations).
- The evaluation committee, according to members’ evaluations, ranks applications in order of priority and awards the scholarships according to the order.
- An average evaluation score of at least 70/100 is required for an application to be considered for funding.
- The applications of master and Ph.D. students will be evaluated separately.
- Members of the evaluation committee in conflict of interest do not vote.
Only one recipient may be selected per pair of PROTEO member co-supervisors per competition.

Scholarship payment process
If a candidate is no longer eligible, they must inform PROTEO as soon as possible so that payments can be discontinued.
How to apply
A letter from the program direction confirming the official co-supervision will be required for the awarding of the grant for co-supervision applications. It is therefore recommended that you prepare it in advance.
